Escape Slides

On 12 June 2019, the CSB released its final report regarding the blowout that killed workers at the Pryor Trust gas well in Oklahoma. The news release brings up concerns about safety and alarm management.

Unfortunately, people died trying to do their jobs in this incident. The news release states that the workers went somewhere they thought was a safer place and were trapped in that location by the ensuing fire. Section 6.12.2 regarding design improvements was very interesting including one about escape slides being required in the Ukraine.

The news release states that the final report identified a lack of regulations governing onshore drilling safety and shortcomings in the safety management system and industry standards used in drilling. The CSB called on the responsible parties to step up and address the problems.
